Indigenous Plant Medicine Workshop
MAY 4th 2019 – 10am -4pm
First and foremost, we would like to acknowledge and thank the Musqueam people for having us on their beautiful traditional lands so that we have the opportunity to learn from the land and each other .
Join us at the UBC xʷc̓ic̓əsəm Garden (Indigenous Health Research and Education Garden) at the UBC Farm, situated on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Musqueam people, for an exciting day of learning traditional plant medicine and medicine making with Cowichan healer Della Rice Sylvester.
We are so exited to host Elder Della Rice who will be joined by the Medicine Collective during the walk and medicine making workshop.
Della (Rice) Sylvester is a First Nations’ healer, ethnobotanist & workshop trainer of the Cowichan Tribes. During the walk, Della will share some of her vast knowledge of Pacific Northwest plants and their medicinal uses, plant identification, storytelling, and cultural protocols. After the walk she will lead a medicine making workshop with us.
This event is part of a series of fundraising activities to support an Indigenous traditional ceremony happening during this Summer solstice. Every year we have come together to raise funds to support with the running cost of the ceremony. So, the funds from this event goes towards the cost of food, travel, building tools and materials, medicinal plants, ceremonial items, etc.
We thank you in advance for your time and your generous financial support towards the healing and wellbeing of Indigenous people by supporting them to renew their connections with land through ceremonial practices that help revitalize, restore, reconcile, and heal their relationships to themselves, their communities, and the land.
